Our founder, Brendan J. McCarthy, has over 40 years of experience in the industry, and most of that experience is in Ohio, West Virginia, And Pennsylvania, throughout the Utica and Marcellus Shales.

Because of this we only buy Mineral Rights in areas where it will be most profitable for the landowner. The Core areas of the Marcellus and Utica Shales are our main focus.

Brendan J. McCarthy

Born and bred in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, began his career in the Oil & Gas industry in the spring of 1978. He was hired as an Apprentice Landman at Meany & Johnson Land Co. in Denver, Colorado. Brendan’s first area of work was in the Williston Basin, North Dakota, as a Field Landman to Amoco Production Company. It was there that he was trained in negotiations and title research by Edward “Bud” Meany, one of Colorado’s legendary Landmen.

During the three years following, Brendan worked throughout western states, gaining experience in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah, Kansas, Illinois, and Michigan. While in Nebraska, Brendan negotiated and signed a 60,000 acre oil and gas lease for a large rancher in Cherry County.

In 1981 an opportunity arose near in Northwestern Pennsylvania. From then until 1991 Brendan worked throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York for Cabot Oil & Gas.

In 1991, Brendan, along with partner, great friend, Joe Bojalad, formed TriEnergy, Inc. They developed TriEnergy into one of the most successful Oil & Gas land acquisition companies in the Appalachian Basin.

Brendan sold TriEnergy in 2004 after being CEO for seventeen years. He desired to start a new company. He formed Brighton Resources in 2006 working with such as Chevron USA, Gulfport Energy Corporation, and Shell Oil Company. At its peak Brighton Resources Employed 170 contractors, mainly in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

After being in the business for over forty (40) years, Brendan sold Brighton Resources and H&M land & Mineral in 2019.
Now, as owner of Cornell Holdings, Inc. Brendan is embarking on new opportunities in the mineral business, combining his forty-two (42) years of experience in minerals, with his comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the Appalachian Basin and a relationships in the industry.

1981

From 1978 to 1981 worked Oil & Gas leasing in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Illinois, Kansas, and Michigan.

1979

Negotiated and secured a 60,000 acre oil & gas lease from a large rencher in Cherry County.

1978

Started in Oil & Gas Industry in North Dakota working as a Field Landman for Amoco Production Co.

1981

From  1981 to 1991worked mainly for Cabot Oil & Gas in Northwestern Pennsylvania and Western New York.

1991

Started the Land Service Company: TriEnergy, Inc. 

2004

Sold TriEnergy along with partner, great friend

2006

Formed Brighton Resources, Inc. securing clients such as Chevron USA

2009

Formed Cornell Holdings, Inc. 

2012

Co-founded H&M Land & Minerals. 

2019

Sold H&M land & Mineral and sold Brighton Resources.
